German Geordies Album Finished

German Geordies

I recently had the pleasure of recording the German Geordies’ album “Blackhill Stories”. Werner and Klaus kept turning up with a big car-load of instruments including some lovely Heiner Dreizehnter hand-made guitars, a Spanish classical guitar, a celtic harp, mandolin, recorders and whistles…and their two very big voices. They even asked me to add some Northumbrian pipes, fiddle, vocals and one of the bass tracks.

It quickly became apparent that some of the songs would benefit from being played live together, but the mandolin-style instruments would bleed on to all the mics, so I built some more portable acoustic walls, including one with a window, so I could isolate certain instruments if needed. This worked really well.

Werner came to join me for the final mixing session, but otherwise I was left alone for remaining editing and mixing. Once everyone was happy, I mastered the album and prepared it for pressing.

The album is out now and selling well at their gigs. They must have been pleased with the recordings, because they’ll be back with their other band The Four Reasons to record and album in the summer.

InTon

Work has already started on an album for the duo InTon. Ernst and Nicola recorded three songs to try out the studio. They have decided to work on more material and come back to me to complete their album. They play an interesting mix of accordion, guitar, hurdy gurdy and vocals.
